Unusual appearance of a cisternal hydatid cyst.

We herein describe a case of an isolated multilocular hydatid cyst occurring in the basilar cisterns, with nondependent levels of different signal intensities shown on MR images. Three portions were visualized on T1-weighted images: the hyperintense inferior aspect, the isointense central part, and the superior aspect of lower signal intensity. The inferior portion was hypointense on T2-weighte...

Radiological Characteristics of Pulmonary Hydatid Cysts

Hydatid disease is a parasitic infection caused by Echinococcus granulosus (EG), characterized by cystic lesions in the liver, lungs, and rarely in other parts of the body. Lungs and liver are the most frequent sites involved. Simultaneous lung and liver cysts are observed in less than 10% of the cases. Hydatid cysts are found more frequently in the lungs of children and adolescents than in the...

Pontine hydatid cyst in association with an acoustic neurinoma: MR appearance in an unusual case.

Cerebral localization of the larval form of Echinococcus granulosus is a rare occurrence (1-4% of cases of hydatidosis) [1 ] , and usually produces solitary large unilocular (hydatid) cysts located in the supratentorial compartment [2-4]. We report the plain and contrast-enhanced MR appearance of a histologically proved pontine hydatid cyst that was adjacent to a multicystic acoustic neurinoma ...

Cerebral hydatid cysts constitute only a small percentage of space occupying lesions of the brain mo...
